  • Easter in the Desert 2009

Easter came very early to our house. Allyson was up at 540 at our door saying I want to see what the Easter bunny has brought me.  So we dragged ourselves out of bed at 545 after we pealed open our eye lids. On Easter it's NEVER too early to start eating candy!

Allyson had a bucket full of goodies sitting on our dining room table.Included in her bucket was the usual fan fare of candy (solid chocolate bunnies (good sized ears of course),lots of jelly beans (they now make lifesaver flavored ones),chocolate eggs and of course chick chicks (5 of those in the bucket, others to be found through out the house)). Also in the bucket was a cute little pink checked bunny, some princess pencils, and a wind up bunny who poops out jelly beans (it's too funny!!). Allyson check out everything and was amazed at the haul she had gotten this year.

Little did she know, the easter bunny was still hiding in our backyard (see picture titled Easter Bunny).

(actually the cats spotted this little guy/girl, hopping around our back yard this morning). It's not your typical cottontail, check out those ears.

    THE Easter Bunny

Last night the festivities started with the traditional coloring of the eggs. We had a selection of 10 colors to use. Paas really has gone overboard with their coloring kits now. I still like the basic kits (they had tye die, camouflage, and some other weird ones too). Dad, Keith tried to make you a Frank Lloyd Wright egg,but the FLLW didn't come out too well. You get the idea though.

The last pictures are of the traditional placing of the chick chicks around the house, just a few places they could be found.  Allyson also found one on her toothbrush.

  • Chandler Ostrich Festival

Yesterday we attended the Chandler (AZ) Ostrich festival. They had lots of games and rides and plenty of very fattening foods to enjoy. I have to say though we were good (only had 1 slice of pizza and water). But the fried dough was very tempting.

Allyson rode rides and had a blast. We did the smart thing and bought her an all day ride pass and it paid for itself well.

As we left Allyson exclaimed "This was the best day of my life".

We spent the first few hours doing the rides, eating and trying to figure out where were all the ostriches!?  Finally we made our way over to the ostrich races... Interesting sport, those things don't like to be told where to go.

In the spinning baskets...having more fun...

Even had a sea lion show, Allyson got hot and hungry duing it so we didn't get to see the whole thing.

Ostrich races aren't exactly safe...one of the riders in the left picture, behind and to the left of the rider in red was thrown off her ostrich and the bird landed on top of her...she was taken to the hospital

More ostrich racing...pretty funny to watch...they will just sometimes run in circles

  • Pretty Pretty Butterflies

Once again it is time for the butterfly exhibit at the Desert Botanical Gardens. Such pretty pretty butterflies at the exhibit. We visited last weekend and hope to one more time before our membership runs out.

The flowers were very pretty as well that the butterflies had to land and play on

Allyson was tickled pink that she had a buttefly land on her neck. They are very friendly and love bright colors.

The butterfly who came to land on me, stuck with me for about 20 minutes as I walked around the exhibit.

Occasionally you find a butterfly who has decided to land on the ground and rest. You are warned to watch were you step, so not to step on the butterflies.

Even Keith had one land on his bright orange hat.  It's such a good add on to the nascar hat!

    IMG_2335 IMG_2342

The butterflies actually sit for a few minutes so you can catch some good pictures

    IMG_2343 IMG_2344

One took up residence on my hat. Allyson turns into a butterfly herself at the end of the exhibit.

  • Girl Scout Cookies For Sale

Yes it's that time of year again. The time that the girl scout cookies come out. Our little girl is a 1st year Brownie and has been selling her little heart out. Sales have been pretty good for her troop so far and at last check with the leader they have managed to sell over 4000 boxes. Not bad for a group of girls who are 6, 7, & 8 year olds.

This past weekend we sat outside of Walmart near our house and sold cookies. The girls did very well and Allyson was very much into selling to the people who approached the table. We had been coaching her on the "ABC's" of selling. Always Be Closing, with a sale. She was taught to say "how many boxes of cookies would you like to buy" instead of asking "would you like to buy some cookies". She did very well. Handled the money and gave back change with only a bit of help.

The only downside of the sale was when we found out that one of our customers passed off a counterfeit $50 bill. Hopefully this wont have to come out of the troop money.
